February Chapter Meeting Notes
SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA SHRM
REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
Wednesday, February 26, 2020
WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER
The Southside Virginia SHRM chapter met for its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 26, at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in the first floor conference room.
The meeting was called to order at 11:53 a.m. by Felisa King, president-elect. The president-elect recognized the following members who had birthdays during the month of February: Alexis Ehrhardt, Beth Groff, Curtis Artis, Rhonda Dark, and Glenda Holt.

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS
The president-elect encouraged members to participate in the 50/50 fundraiser. The proceeds of this fundraiser provide funds for conference attendance, certifications, and supports scholarships.
Members were reminded of the SHRM State Conference which will be held on April 19-22 at the Omni Homestead Resort. Those interested in attending the conference were instructed to contact Chaquetta Hill.
The Blue Ridge Chapter of SHRM will be sponsoring an Employment Law Seminar on Wednesday, March 11 at Patrick Henry Community College. The seminar is scheduled from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. and the cost is $15. Lawyers from Woods/Rogers will be the speakers for the event. Members interested in carpooling to this event can contact Janice Brink. Registration information was emailed to all members.
GUEST SPEAKER
Barry Mayo introduced the guest speaker Brad Hartman. President of Bottom Line Consulting (BLC). BLC is a health and safety company that specializes in injury prevention. The company has four focus areas: (1) injury prevention and recovery, (2) health psychology, (3) nutrition and (4) ergonomics. Mr. Hartman shared workplace injury statistics and guidance on how to prevent injuries in the workplace.
FIFTY/FIFTY DRAWING
Chad Younger was the winner of the 50/50 drawing. The balance of the funds will be used to support the SHRM foundation.
