President

Chris informed that we will extend RADA fund raising until end of Sept. We will talk it up at our August meeting. Gift card to the member that raises the most money.
Kristina Barkhouser has officially resigned. Chris will reach out to her to schedule a lunch date to show our appreciation for her service to our Chapter.
Chris & Petrina will develop HR related PowerPoint presentations to offer to certified members who may be seeking to obtain CEU opportunities for this year’s programs that were not pre-certified.

Ronnie will lead the effort to start conversations about elections next week, send out volunteer job descriptions, and email blasts.

Lisa distributed RADA orders to those in attendance. RADA fund raiser will be extended another month.
Lisa will reach out to Gail Epps for confirmation on conducting our chapter audit. Gail is a former Treasurer for our Chapter.

Secretaries

1. Pam reported that she obtained her HRCI re-certification notification this week. There was discussion about some of our programs not being pre-certified with HRCI & SHRM. Chris & Petrina will look into other options for certified members seeking CEU’s. Pam reported you can record sessions that are not pre-certified, but you will have to document what you learned from the session and if ever audited, will need to produce something to prove attendance.

Membership Chairs

Christine reported we have 57 paid members & 29 Nationals members at present.
Christine reported that Kim Wiles is taking advantage of her chapter sponsored SHRM National membership. Jan Brink & Cathy Conner were both winners of ½ of their SHRM National membership dues sponsored by our Chapter. Both declined.
Linda Moore discussed at-large members that they plan to reach out to with solicitation letters. They plan to reach 70+ at-large members from the following areas: Martinsville, Bassett, Ridgeway, Altavista, Chatham, Danville, Gretna, Java, Scottsburg, South Boston, Reidsville, Eden, Brown Summit, Madison, Stoneville & Yanceyville

Ashley was absent from today’s meeting, but she has expressed concern to Chris that she is having difficulty validating our meetings for certification & asked for back up. Chris reached out to Betty Wilcher during our meeting and she will research how many of our meetings were not certified so we can offer other options to our members.

Connie reported that our meeting registration format doesn’t enable our members to navigate through our website and asked if we thought we should change this. The consensus was no.

Workforce Readiness Chair

Allison Moore from the Chamber will be speaking to our membership in September on some workforce resources. Pathways to the American Dream Grant is something he just discovered that he plans to research further and will share with the group as he learns more. These resources are beyond what WIOA offers. He is speaking next week in Abington, VA on the NCRC.

College Relations Chair

Andrea has officially resigned from the chapter. We will not replace her position this year. Will elect someone new for the 2018 position.

Petrina Carter

Past President

1. Petrina shared information about the SCALE up program that was funded through the Dept. of Social Services out of Richmond, VA. Funds were given to several entities and the VEC was awarded $339K. This program is credentialed to move people out of poverty. SCALE is an acronym for Successful Credentialing Assistance Leading to Employment.
