Angie M & Ronnie P attended and reported the meeting was good.

Informed about Va State Council new branding DBA HR Virginia.  Ronnie said it was discussed that we have the best District Director in the State and it has been recommended that Betty Wilcher prepare to be the Council President in the future GO BETTY!!

    1. October 26, 2018, Lynchburg, VA Next State Council meeting.  State Council meeting is on Friday, 10/26.
    2. October 27, 2018, Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA Student conference takes place this day.
    3. October 2018 Virginia SHRM Week.  Angie reported that this couldn’t be combined with BAA; however, Alexis is open to partnering with us through the Chamber.  Petrina said she spoke to Julie Brown to see if we can reserve 2 Witches Brewery for 10/18/18 & Julie said they have a painting class in the carpet room that date and it would be better to select a date that we could use that room.  We discussed the Career Expo October 2 - 4th, at the SOVAH Ag Center in Chatham as an alternative for our Va. SHRM Week location.  There was discussion about when we would make the most presence…day vs evening and it was determined that we may make more contact for businesses probably during the evening, or we will see if Julie Brown will let us set up a table of refreshments for volunteers during the day.  A motion was made by Susan to research the SOVAH Ag Center
    4. October 31, 2018 Chapter 2019 Board Elections. Angie will move up to President so we will have to solicit & nominate a President Elect.  Petrina said she will be transitioning Glenda Holt into her membership and she may be a good candidate for Treasurer.  Angie & Ronnie will be the nominating committee.  We should bring names for the nominating slate to our next board meeting in September.  Anyone who has served 2 years will roll off of the board.
    5. We discussed gifts & remembrances for Chapter board members as we recently had 2 board members parents pass away.  We need to come up with a standard protocol for what we would do in the case of bereavement of a Board Members family member to have consistency for all.  Christina made a motion & Lisa Hines second that we make a $40 donation to a charity of choice that will discussed on a case by case basis on who qualifies as immediate family.  Everyone’s situations are different and some may have aunts/uncles that raised them.  Motion was approved by all.
    6. Ronnie reported that the National SHRM Leadership conference is in November 2018 in Maryland.  This is a full expenses paid trip for one officer from each chapter.  If any others from chapter go, they will have to pay their own expenses.  Angie McAdams reported that she will be attending to represent our Chapter.

    1. 2018 SSVA Chapter Membership Update

    1. Christine reported that Joe Barton, from Valley Store Credit Union, sought us out and joined our membership.  He hasn’t visited our Chapter as a guest or spoken to anyone about membership, so he read the dues incorrectly.  It was determined that Christine will reach out to him about receipt of the remaining $25 in dues.
    2. Christine reported that replacements still have not been hired for Carl S & Liz, but they are closer to hiring and she is staying on top of it so we can solicit the new hires as members.
    3. We currently have 63 paid members, 35 of which are National members also.
    4. 19 members have RSVP’s for our upcoming August meeting to date.

Petrina said she can probably have programs lined up through March 2019 for the upcoming Program Chairs.  Betty Wilcher is going to reach out to Hershel Stone from Edward Jones who has already informed her that he would like to present and possibly rejoin as a member.  He is going to be asked if he can present in January 2019.  The Administrative Professional’s Day was discussed and most said that the community looks forward to this event and it is felt that we should continue it in 2019, against previous board discussions to possibly do something different this year.  Petrina said if she takes care of the first 3 months of programs in 2019, then the new chairs can be informed that working on the April event would be priority for them out of the gate so it is a well planned success.  No motions were made about the discussion.

    1.  State Council discussed that SHRM is trying to make it easier for members to obtain SHRM CEU’s.  HRCI still mandates that you cannot have a meeting during qualified CEU presentations, but SHRM states it’s now acceptable to earn credit for their credential.
    2. Betty also reported that if you sign up for SHRM conferences or webinars, it will now automatically post to your CEU’s account for you….no manual entry required any longer.
    3. There is a new app that allows you to enter your CEU’s through your phone.  There is a uTube video that demonstrates how you can load this app.
    4. There is an assessment on the SHRM home page that allows you 1 CEU for competencies.  SHRM is able to monitor your visits through this channel.
    5. Betty reported that there is a 69% pass rate for the SHRM-CP and 55% pass rate for the SHRM-SCP.

    2.  Vicki asked if we had to have a fund raiser to obtain Champion status.  We do 50/50, which qualifies as a fund raiser.  Petrina Carter made a motion & Vicki Davis second that we have an additional fundraiser with Pampered Chef to start in September 2018.  Vicki reported that we earn 20% of any sales over $1K & each member will receive a packet and sold items will be delivered directly to the members house.   Susan Dalton made a motion and Linda Moore second that we also have a silent auction at our 12/12/18 Christmas meeting as a fund raiser.  All motions received all in favor.
