BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
Wednesday August 19, 2020
WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER
The Southside Virginia SHRM Board of Directors met on Wednesday August 19th via Zoom Teleconference Meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by Leslie Rakes HR Virginia Southern District Director. The following members were present at the meeting:

NEWS & UPDATES
- Leslie Rakes spoke about the Woods Rodgers HR Lifeline Webinar Series October 1-29
Will consist of (5) 1 ½ hour webinars cost $250.00 with a $50.00 discount using SHRM 50 discount code. Approved for 7.5 HRCI and/or SHRM Credits
- Betty Wilcher spoke about the NC Annual SHRM Conference 3 ½ day Virtual Conference September 16-18 Cost $299.00 until 8/31, Late Registration $349.00 until 3:00 p.m. on 9/15.
Approved for 13 HRCI and/or SHRM Credits. 21 attendees from Virginia have registered so far.
- Jan Brink made a motion that the Chapter offer (2) scholarships for the conference open to SSVA SHRM Board Members. Shirley Hodges seconded the motion. Leslie to send information to board membership. Anyone interested in the scholarships will let Leslie know and all interested will be put in a drawing. Leslie will contact the winning receiptants.
Betty also shared with the membership information on upcoming SHRM events.
MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
38 paid Chapter members, 20 are National members. Christine reported that she sent Betty Wilcher SHRM Membership report. (she will follow up on this). Christine will send reminder to unpaid members.
Treasurer’s Update
Lisa Hines will not be able to help as co-chair with Shirley Hodge.
Statement balances as of 6/25/20 as follows:
Savings $21,090.27
Checking $ 9,803.90
CD $ 4,980.14
No outstanding invoices are known at this time.
Leslie shared the Blue Ridge Human Resources Association treasurer ‘s monthly reconciliation process and would like to have a meeting with Shirley to review their process.
Secretary’s Report
Chad Younger made a motion to approve July Board Meeting Minutes. Jill Levinson 2nd the motion.
Communications Update
Connie Alderson reported no updates.
Status of Current Board
Recently, the board received the following resignations effective immediately:
- Chaquetta Hill, President – due to changes in employment
- Felisa King, President Elect – due to changes in employment
- Twyla Price, Co-Treasurer & Communications Co-Chair – due to changes in employment
Christine and Connie are assisting with President & President Elect duties at this time. Lisa Hines has agreed to fill in as Co-Treasurer for the remainder of the year.

Other Business
- Chapter Board Campaign-suggested minimum donation of $35 to the SHRM foundation
- Board Members can make personal donations . Betty discussed the new online platform to make donations to the SHRM Foundation. shrmfoundation.org Shirley Hodge to make Chapter donation in the Amount of $250.00 using her debit card.
- Betty reminded everyone that the President for 2021 should plan to attend the Volunteer Leaders’ Business Meeting at the Gaylord on November 14. The 4th quarter State Council meeting will be held immediately following the VLBM conference.
Next Scheduled Board Meeting September 23rd via Zoom Teleconference 12:00 noon.
