Christine made a motion that we give $20 value coupon to give to speakers who do not charge a fee. A couple of programs that may be of help. Funds are available depending on individuals’ eligibility, which would need to be determined on an individualized basis.
- Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) administered through the Virginia Workforce Center
- Main qualifiers: at poverty level for their household size, or dislocated worker status (laid off within the past 6 months)
- Virginia Workforce Center confirmed the Bennett Mechanical assessment would qualify for funding for those enrolled in WIOA
-
- SCALE UP (Success Credentialing Assistance Leading to Employment and Upending Poverty) administered through Danville Community College. New source of money.
- Qualifier: within 200% of poverty level for their household size
- DCC confirmed the Bennett Mechanical assessment would qualify for funding for those enrolled in SCALE UP
Applicants would need to be enrolled in WIOA or SCALE UP prior to taking the Bennett Mechanical assessment. If chapter is interested in talking further about working out a system, Ron could arrange a meeting between the VEC, WIOA and DCC.
- This is going to be Ron’s last meeting because he has taken a job in North Carolina. He starts his new job Monday. He will truly be missed.
