REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER
The Southside Virginia SHRM chapter met for its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 27, at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in the first floor conference room.
The meeting was called to order at 11:54 p.m. by Angie McAdams, president. The president recognized the following members who had birthdays during the month of February: Rhonda Dark and Glenda Holt. The following members and guests were present at the meeting:

UPDATES
Workforce Survey – Chad Younger and Angie McAdams have finalized the Workforce Survey, and it will be sent to area employers over the next week.
Short-term Training – Cheryl Terry briefed the group regarding short-term training available through DCC’s Workforce Center.
STATE CONFERENCE
Members were reminded of the SHRM State Conference which will be held on April 7-10 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Administrative Professionals’ Day Luncheon – Due to the relocation of Susan Watkins, Program Chair, additional volunteers are needed to work on the Administrative Professionals’ Day Committee. Richie Robertson and Twyla Price volunteered to assist the committee. There is currently a board position open for Program Chair.

GUEST SPEAKER
Angie McAdams introduced the guest speaker Ms. Petrina Carter. Ms. Carter is currently employed as President/CEO at Tri-County Community Action. Ms. Carter presented information to the chapter on the following topics relating to recruitment and employee retention:
- Ways to address the skills gap
- Recruiting in an employee vs. employer market
- The difference between inbound and outbound recruitment
- Reasons to use social media
- Most popular social networks to use for recruiting
- The need to change/review employee processes
