July 2019 Board Meeting

    BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

    Wednesday July 24, 2019

    WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER

    The Southside Virginia SHRM Board of Directors met on Wednesday, July 24,2019 at Averett University’s Riverview Campus in the first floor conference room.

    The meeting was called to order at 12:15 p.m. by Angie McAdams, President. The following members were present at the meeting:

    PRESIDENT’S REPORT

    Angie McAdams provided members with the following updates:

     

     

     

     

      • HR Virginia Third Quarter meeting will be held on July 26 at a Southside Virginia location
      • The National SHRM Conference will be held on June 23-26 in Las Vegas, board member Betty Wilcher attended the conference and shared information with members.

    PRESIDENT-ELECT’S REPORT

    Chaquetta Hill was unable to attend meeting

    TREASURERS’ REPORT

    Glenda Holt provided copies of the June Financial Report

    SECRETARIES’ REPORT

    seconded by Shirley Hodge. Minutes were approved as written by an unanimous vote.

    Members were provided with copies of the minutes for the June Board Meeting and the regular monthly meeting. No changes were made to the minutes that were presented. Ronnie Pannell made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, and Shirley Hodge seconded the motion.

    MEMBERSHIP REPORT

    Lucious Chandler reported we currently have 55 active members, of which two new members have not paid.

    PROGRAM REPORT

    The following individuals were suggested as speakers for future meetings:

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

      • June – Alexis Ehrhardt, Chamber of Commerce
      • July – R. J. Lackey, Attorney
      • August– Dr. Robert Walker, VEC Chief Veterans Office
      • September – Chris Wilson
      • October - N/A (Elections for board members)
      • November – Dr. Juliette Jennings, Danville Public Schools

    Angie will contact Curtis Artis about speaking to membership at January 2020 meeting and checking to see his interest in serving as Program Chairperson for 2020.

    Program topics were discussed for 2020 i.e. FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation….. Legalization of Marijuana

    CERTIFICATIONS REPORT

    Betty Wilcher asked for past meeting Speaker information and topics and will try to send out information for past meeting HRCI recertification instructions.

    COMMUNICATION REPORT

    Angie will try to contact Susan Watkins for possible information she may have on Facebook Account

    FOUNDATION REPORT

    Vicki Davis informed members that she had permission to hold the SHRM Yard Sale on Robbie Woodall’s property located across from Dairy Heart on Riverside Drive. Yard sale will be held on October 19th 2019. Membership can drop of donations to Vicki Davis at Barkhouser Ford. Yard sell will be announced at membership meeting next week. More details to come.

    Chad Younger was not able to attend the meeting

    COLLEGE RELATIONS REPORT

    Jill Levinson didn’t have any updates to report.

    PAST PRESIDENT’S REPORT

    Ronnie Pannell shared with group information on Best Practices.

    ADJOURNMENT

    The meeting adjourned at 1: 20 p.m.
