BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
Thursday July 30,2020
WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER
The Southside Virginia SHRM Board of Directors met on Thursday July 30th via Zoom Teleconference Meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by Leslie Rakes HR Virginia Southern District Director. The following members were present at the meeting:

NEWS & UPDATES
Leslie Rakes introduced herself. She and Betty Wilcher shared with the board recent resignations and discussed the future of the Southside VA SHRM chapter.
MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
In the absence of Membership Chairs, Christine Thompson shared with the group that we currently have 38 paid Chapter members, 20 are National members. There will be additional review of membership and a new report submitted to SHRM with the updated information.
Treasurer’s Update
Lisa Hines has agreed to step in and help co-chair with Shirley Hodge until the end of the year.
Christine provided bank statement balances as of 6/25/20 as follows:
Savings $21,090.27
Checking $ 9,803.90
CD $ 4,980.14
No outstanding invoices are known at this time.
Leslie shared the Blue Ridge Human Resources Association treasurer ‘s monthly reconciliation process and would like to have a meeting with Shirley and Lisa to review their process.
Secretary’s Report
Jan Brink shared that Richie Robertson is responsible for secretary duties with Jan as back up in the event that Richie is unable to attend meetings.
Communications Update
Connie Alderson reported no updates.
Status of Current Board
Recently, the board received the following resignations effective immediately:
- Chaquetta Hill, President – due to changes in employment
- Felisa King, President Elect – due to changes in employment
- Twyla Price, Co-Treasurer & Communications Co-Chair – due to changes in employment
Christine and Connie are assisting with President & President Elect duties at this time. Lisa Hines has agreed to fill in as Co-Treasurer for the remainder of the year.

2020 Programs & Recertification Credits

Leslie, Christine, Connie, & Betty will meet separately with Barry, Vivian, and Jill to discuss further details about programs.
Christine is working on the August program with Cathy Gore.
Leslie and Beverly Scruggs will discuss the program opportunities for September and make sure they will fit the guidelines for SHRM & HRCI pre-approved programming. Leslie will share this information with Christine, Connie, Barry, Vivian, and Jill.
Suggestions were made to hold a program for October along with the elections and in December since COVID-19 has limited the programming and recertification credit opportunities for the year. Leslie and Christine both have some ideas in mind for this.
We are waiting on Dave Basham to confirm that he will be able to present in November.
Other Business
- Chapter Board Campaign-suggested minimum donation of $35 to the SHRM foundation
- 3rd Quarter State Council Zoom Meeting 7.31.2020
- Leslie will send the 2020 Shape Workbook to Board Members.
- Betty reminded everyone that the President for 2021 should plan to attend the Volunteer Leaders’ Business Meeting at the Gaylord in November. The 4th quarter State Council meeting will be held immediately following the VLBM conference.
- Betty shared information about NC SHRM inviting HR Virginia and other states interested partnering for their virtual state conference.
- Betty discussed the new online platform to make donations to the SHRM Foundation.
- Barry made a motion to send a $50.00 check to Ronnie Pannell (thinking of you). Shirley seconded the motion. Shirley will write the check and Christine will pick up check and put in the mail along with card.
Next Scheduled Board Meeting August 19th via Zoom Teleconference 12:00 noon.
