June Chapter Meeting Notes

     

    SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA SHRM

    REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

    Wednesday, June 26, 2019

     

    WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER

    The Southside Virginia SHRM chapter met for its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 26, at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in the first floor conference room.

    The meeting was called to order at 11:54 a.m. by Angie McAdams, president. The president recognized the following members who had birthdays during the month of June: Connie Alderson, Jill Levinson, and Chaquetta Hill. The following members and guests were present at the meeting:

    PRESIDENT’S REMARKS

    Angie McAdams thanked Cathy Conner for her membership and years of service to the SHRM Board. Cathy is retiring and will no longer be able to serve on the board as program co-chair. Angie is seeking members to fill the two vacancies for program co-chairs.

     

     

    GUEST SPEAKER

    Dr. Alexis Ehrhardt and Rachel Covington from the Danville-Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce served as speakers for the meeting. The topic of the presentation was "The Only Way to Do Business." The speakers presented information as to how the Chamber could become partners with the business community by providing access to business, government, leadership, and through developing talent. The Chamber also supports businesses by assisting with legislative issues, job listings, data collection, and member engagement. Members were advised that if an employer is a member of the Chamber, all employees are members also.

    FIFTY/FIFTY DRAWING

    Richie Robertson was the winner of the 50/50 drawing. The balance of the funds will be used to support the SHRM foundation.

    ADJOURNMENT

    The meeting adjourned at 12:47 p.m.
