November 2019 Board Meeting

    BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

    Wednesday, November 13, 2019

    WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER

    The Southside Virginia SHRM Board of Directors met on Wednesday, November 13, at Averett University’s Riverview Campus in the first floor conference room.

    The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by Angie McAdams, president. The following members were present at the meeting:

    Jan Brink, Secretary Co-Chair

    Lucius Chandler- Membership Co-Chair

    PRESIDENT’S REPORT

    Angie McAdams provided members with the following updates:

    Felica King, 2020 President-Elect will be attending the Volunteer Leader’s Summit (VLS) which will be held on November 14 -16 in Washington, DC. Along with the HR Virginia fourth quarter meeting on Saturday, November 16, after VLS concludes.

    Angie McAdams reviewed programs that have been lined up for 2020 to date. Angie shared with the group that she has handed over the Program Credit for recertification process to Chaquetta Hill.

    PRESIDENT-ELECT’S REPORT

    Chaquetta Hill was not able to attend the meeting.

    TREASURERS’ REPORT

    Glenda Holt nor Shirley Hodge were present at the meeting

    SECRETARIES’ REPORT

    Members were e-mailed copies of the minutes for the board meeting and regular monthly meeting held in October. Connie Alderson made a motion to approve the minutes; Lucius Chandler seconded the motion.

    MEMBERSHIP REPORT

    Lucius Chandler reported 63 members with at least one-half being national members

    PROGRAM REPORT

    Programs for future meetings are as follows:

    November – Dr. Juliette Jennings (Danville Public Schools)

    December – Christmas party

    January – SOVAH

    February – Brad Hartman (Infinity Global) Healthy Employees

    March – Norma Brewer, City Housing and Development Specialist

    April – Administrative Professionals’ Luncheon (Betty Foster)

    Angie has spoken with (Betty Jo Foster) she has responded that she thought she would be available and would let Angie know if she was not

    Bankers Insurance – Cyber Security in the Workplace

    Bankers Insurance- Attracting and Retaining key employees

    Raymond James- Retirement planning for your employees - later in 2020

    Veterans progam – TBD

    Legal Updates- TBD

    October - 2020 – elections for 2021

    December 2020 – Christmas Party

    CERTIFICATIONS REPORT

    Betty Wilcher was not able to attend the meeting.

    COMMUNICATION REPORT

    Twyla Price would like to receive speaker information earlier to include the information on the website and in the email sent to members regarding the monthly meeting.

    FOUNDATION REPORT

    Yard sale fundraiser was a success and generated $367 for the chapter. Angie McAdams stated that a donation in the amount of $250.00 was made to the National Foundation.

    WORKFORCE READINESS REPORT

    Chad Younger informed the board that Workforce Services would be offering HR certification courses in February/March. Currently seeking an instructor

    COLLEGE RELATIONS REPORT

    Jill Levinson was not present to report

    MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS

    Marcellous Reeves will be planning our 2019 Christmas Party…it was mentioned as a reminder that the 2020 Agreement for meeting venue would need to be signed with the Institute.

    PAST PRESIDENT’S REPORT

    This was Ronnie Pannell’s last board meeting.
