October 2019 Board Meeting

     

    SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA SHRM

    BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

    Wednesday, October 23, 2019

     

    WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER

    The Southside Virginia SHRM Board of Directors met on Wednesday, October 23, at Averett University’s Riverview Campus in the first floor conference room.

    The meeting was called to order at 12:07 p.m. by Angie McAdams, president. The following members were present at the meeting:

    Shirley Hodge, Treasurer Co-Chair

    Vicki Davis, Foundation Chair

    Glenda Holt, Treasurer Co-Chair

    Chad Younger, Workforce Readiness Chair

    Richie Robertson, Secretary Co-Chair

    Jillian Levinson, College Relations Chair

    Michele Cole, Membership Co-Chair

    Ronnie Pannell, Past President

     

    PRESIDENT’S REPORT

    Angie McAdams provided members with the following updates:

    Chaquetta Hill will be attending the Volunteer Leader’s Summit (VLS) which will be held on November 14 -16 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, DC. The HR Virginia fourth quarter meeting will be held on Saturday, November 16, after VLS concludes.

    Board elections will be conducted at the October meeting. Members have been encouraged to serve on the board. The following board positions are available:

    President-elect
    Program co-chairs
    Secretary co-chair
    Treasurer co-chair (resignation - Glenda Holt)
    Education co-chair (resignation – Jill Levinson)

    PRESIDENT-ELECT’S REPORT

    Chaquetta Hill was not able to attend the meeting.

    TREASURERS’ REPORT

    Glenda Holt provided members with an update regarding the chapter’s finances.

    SECRETARIES’ REPORT

    Members were provided with copies of the minutes for the board meeting and regular monthly meeting held in September. Ronnie Pannell made a motion to approve the minutes; Jill Levinson seconded the motion.

    MEMBERSHIP REPORT

    Michele Cole reported that the chapter has three new members.

    PROGRAM REPORT

    Programs for future meetings are as follows:

    October – Board elections will be held. Members are strongly encouraged to volunteer to serve on the board.

    November – Dr. Juliette Jennings (Danville Public Schools)

    December – Christmas party

    January – SOVAH

    February – Brad Hartman (Infinity Global)

    March – Norma Brewer, City Housing and Development Specialist

    April – Administrative Professionals’ Luncheon (Betty Foster was suggested as a speaker for this event)

    Beverly Scruggs has contacted Angie McAdams regarding speaking on the topic of employer benefits. Angie will also contact representatives from the Veterans Administration to reschedule their opportunity to present at a future meeting.

    CERTIFICATIONS REPORT

    Betty Wilcher was not able to attend the meeting.

     

     

    COMMUNICATION REPORT

    Twyla Price would like to receive speaker information earlier to include the information on the website and in the email sent to members regarding the monthly meeting.

    FOUNDATION REPORT

    Vicki Davis reported that the yard sale fundraiser was a success and generated $367 for the chapter. Angie McAdams stated that the chapter would donate $250 for the national fundraiser.

    WORKFORCE READINESS REPORT

    Chad Younger informed the board that Workforce Services would be offering HR certification courses in February/March.

    COLLEGE RELATIONS REPORT

    Jill Levinson didn’t have any updates to report.

    PAST PRESIDENT’S REPORT

    Ronnie Pannell expressed hope for another platinum year for the chapter.

    ADJOURNMENT

    The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
